21st Century Innovation, In An 18th Century Home

Starglaze – Sternfenster’s installation division – recently completed a full window reinstallation of the 18th century farmhouse home of Mr and Mrs Wells, in Lincolnshire.

Due to the age of their home, Mr and Mrs Wells found themselves in a tricky position: with solid brick walls, they were told that their home was unsuited for cavity wall insulation, and when their energy survey came back, they found that their farmhouse was Energy Rated E.

“For us, although we couldn’t insulate the walls themselves, we knew that a quick win would be to change all of our very draughty, old timber windows”, said Mr Wells.

“The farmer next door had actually just had Starglaze out to do all of their windows, so they recommended Starglaze to me as they were so impressed by them.

“From the very first step of initially submitting an enquiry online, the service was second to none. I got an initial call to arrange an appointment where we were shown the options and colours that we could have, in a really friendly, non-pressured way. The salesman had a lot of knowledge and experience, and that really clinched our decision to go with Starglaze.”

The Wells settled for a complete reinstallation of all their windows to triple-glazed flush PVCu casements, offering increased energy efficiency and durability without compromising on the classic style that they were after.

“With the age of the house being 18th century, we really wanted a style that would be a nod to its heritage, whilst also offering a modern twist, and for us, white flush casements did that,” Mr Wells said.

“We have some old pictures of the farmhouse when it had wooden single pane windows, and the appearance is very similar to the flush casement we have now, which is really nice. And we went for white as it’s just timeless, and blends in nicely with the other houses in this area.

“From the initial online enquiry to installation, it only took Starglaze eight weeks – and that’s for custom designed, triple-glazed windows. The service was just outstanding, and not to mention the real difference in heat that we feel inside our home, without the draughts!”

Sternfenster’s Deceuninck range of flush casement windows are manufactured using Graf Weld technology, which produces smooth, seamless frames. No vinyl is lost at the corner joint, keeping both the frame and sash tough and durable. Their flush design offers a traditional charm to new builds or an enhancing feature to traditional or conservation properties, like the Wells’ farmhouse.

Additionally, with an A WER rating and u-values as low as 1.2 W/m2K, the flush casements pack a punch with their energy efficiency.

Sternfenster’s customer tools and support initiatives also support installers. A virtual showroom enables installers to sit down with homeowners like Mr and Mrs Wells, and visually show them the technical specifications, colour and hardware options, as well as a 360º CGI tour of products.

Sternfenster has invested heavily in IT solutions to facilitate a closer partnership with its customers. Central to this strategy is Sternfenster’s EasyAdmin system, which allows businesses to produce professional quotes quickly for homeowners. It also allows window installation companies to have complete oversight of their profit and loss. This information is updated daily and allows business owners to see the health of their accounts in real time.

Then if the quotation is converted into an order, EasyAdmin allows the installer to do this effortlessly, with the order tracking fully visible throughout the process.

“You could tell that the installation team were really organised, and they were so efficient. The speed, quality and communication is why I would recommend Starglaze”, concluded Mr Wells.
