CPD Architects’ Seminar Facilitates Airtightness In Construction Understanding

by | Jul 4, 2024 | Events

Architects can take advantage of a CPD initiative from tape sealant specialist ISO Chemie, which explains airtightness in construction sealing joints and the options for its improvement.

The seminar, which has been designed to advance architectural knowledge and facilitate understanding of airtightness and related issues, enables professionals to improve the design and construction of buildings and boost their technical and product expertise.

Delivered onsite within the practice and contributing towards formal CPD training, the one-hour long programme covers advice on effective window installation techniques, and how to identify and locate air leakage.

Guidance on the latest airtightness products and sealing solutions is covered, which includes details of ISO-Chemie’s range of gap sealing solutions ISO-Bloco Win2Wall and Bloco-One. ISO-Bloco Win2Wall enables quickly and easy sealing from inside the building, the product will seal gaps from 2 mm to 8 mm, accommodating the vast majority of UK window installations, claims the company, and comes in 2 widths to give the extra thermal insulation equivalent to A Rated (40mm tape) or A+ and A++ windows (64mm tape)

Win2Wall is also weather tight to 600 Pa and has excellent acoustic insulation properties. Installing a window or door using WIN2WALL will give the window an equivalent or better thermal property than the window unit itself. Even the smaller 40mm size tape will give the joint between the window and wall a U-Value of 1.2, equivalent to an A-rated window.

Up to 70% cost savings can be achieved when using the ISO-BLOCO ONE foam tape for high performance window sealing, according to the the company, rather than the current three component systems, enabling architects to design fenestration applications that enable installers to quickly and easily seal windows from inside the building. This avoids the need to use time consuming and costly external access systems like scaffolding and ladders.

Easy-to-apply, the self-adhesive ISO BLOCO ONE provides sealing for window and door joints up to 30mm wide and is impermeable to driving rain at a minimum of 1,000 Pa – 66% higher reliability than most conventional joint sealing tapes.

The internal air tight seal has been tested at 1000 Pa pressure difference (20 times more than UK Building Regulations.) and found to give less than 0.1 m³ of air loss. At the same time, depending on tape width, it will also provide a U-Value of 0.55 and reduce sound by 63db says the company.
