CDW Systems To Merge With Sister Company Clearway Windows & Doors


CDW Systems has announced that it is set to merge with its sister company, supplier and installer Clearway Doors & Windows.

Both businesses boast more than 30 years in the industry and in 2010 the Gloucester-based CDW bought out the Cheltenham-based Clearway.

The merger will see Clearway become a division of CDW Systems, with Clearway continuing to be used for the supply and install side of the business, with all the trade supply coming under CDW.


Nine Zero Reveals Its Commitment To Reducing Carbon Footprint


The UK Government recognised timber’s place in the route to sustainable projects by setting out its Timber in Construction Roadmap in December. With full support of the initiative, aimed at aiding supply, Nine Zero Timber Windows and Doors has gone one step further in setting out its commitment to reducing carbon emissions, by detailing to customers the eco-centric decisions and practices it has in place, says the company. 

Nine Zero products are made in the UK, and an intrinsic part of the manufacturing process is ensuring all waste produced is appropriately reused.

Tentative Start To 2024 As January Value Sales Slip -2.1% Year On Year


The latest Builders Merchant Building Index (BMBI) report shows builders’ merchants’ value sales were down -2.1% in January compared to the same month in 2023, with volume sales falling -3.2% and prices creeping up +1.1%. With one more trading day this year, like-for-like sales were down -6.5%.

Year-on-year, nine of the twelve categories sold more than January 2023 with Workwear & Safetywear (+18.3%), Landscaping (+6.2%) and Decorating (+6.1%) the better performers. However, falling sales in two of the largest categories impacted overall sales: Heavy Building Materials (-3.8%) and Timber & Joinery Products (-6.3%).

Sustainable Focus for aluplast at FIT Show 2025


aluplast has signed up to FIT Show 2025, in a move that supports its new product development programme for the next 12 months, including new systems and new foils and finishes.

The Tewkesbury-based systems company has booked a large 186m2 stand close to the entrance of Hall 8, where it will display new thermally efficient windows and doors, alongside a significant expansion to its foil offering, including woodec and aludec.

“aluplast had a very strong presence at this year’s Fensterbau in Germany,” aluplast’s director of sales and marketing Ian Cocken said.


GQA Helps Droylsden Glass To Upskill Employees


A partnership between GQA, the awarding and qualifications writing body and IVS Training & Assessment has resulted in the formal upskilling of thirteen members of staff at Droylsden Glass. The employees have succeeded in achieving a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Fenestration Installation. This GQA qualification is suited to those leading a team of installers or undertaking complex projects.

Operating mainly in the Greater Manchester and Cheshire areas, Droylsden Glass was founded in 1982, and offers a range of award-winning, bespoke windows and doors for both retail and commercial projects.

DGCOS has launched its installer brochure, outlining the key benefits of being a DGCOS member, in an easy-to-access format. Aimed at potential member companies, the brochure clearly explains the details of the support installers have access to when they are DGCOS members.

The first meeting of 2024 of the licensed members of the UK & Ireland Association is to take place at the headquarters of IFO in Germany in early April. IFO offer independent third party inspection services for all licensed members in the UK and Ireland. To understand the importance of third party accreditation we need to look at what is provided by ‘national standards’.

British Standards are known and often used across the globe to recognise a ‘standard’ for manufacture or service. By specification of a standard you are asking for a product or service that will fulfil its duty in use in any industry.

A Staffordshire Moorlands company which started out making wooden caskets and now specialises in designing and manufacturing handcrafted timber windows, doors and staircases is forecast to turnover a £1m for the very first time, according to the company.

Family run business Brookeswood Joinery based in Leek, operate across the Midlands, Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire is also celebrating its tenth birthday.

The company which is run by a father, mother and son team has expanded over the years and now employs a growing team of 20 which has increased from 12 in 2020.
