’UK Conformity Assessment And What You Need to Know’

By Wojciech Brozyna – MD of Aluprof UK

Since the beginning of 2021 the UK now sits outside of the European Economic Area (EEA) complete with a late brokered ‘deal’ which helps businesses trade without tariffs between the EEA and the UK. Despite the increased levels of paperwork required for such imports and exports, it is ‘almost business as usual’. Over the last few years conformity with legislation and standards present in Europe has been a prerequisite for producing and selling any goods within the EEA, either produced in the EEA or from overseas. Known as ‘CE’ marking, it is applicable equally to the manufacture and sale of a paper clip to a curtain wall facade.

So what is a ‘CE’ mark? A CE mark indicates conformity with a harmonised product standard,

Market Uncertainty?

With both Brexit and Covid-19 issues still very much with us, 2021 will continue to be a challenge for all businesses. Both the ‘State of the Trade’ survey from CAB and the recent CPA (Construction Products Association) forecasts do offer cautious hope for the year ahead.

CAB’s 2020 final quarter ‘State of the Trade Survey’ showed a distinct caution within the fenestration industry compared to the wider construction industry. CAB’s survey is taken from its membership and the results benchmarked against the wider construction industry by the CPA. Normally CAB members fare much better, or are more optimistic than that of the general construction industry, but the last report of 2020 offers an interesting insight.

New Handle Portfolio Launched To Showcase Aluminium Window And Door Systems

A handle collection has been curated by HOPPE (UK) to support aluminium window and door manufacturers looking to specify compatible hardware for their products.

Aluminium is known for being a versatile metal. Its flexibility, strength and corrosion resistance make it the ideal building material. It is also significantly more environmentally friendly than other metals; it is 100% recyclable, meaning that carbon savings increase each time it is recycled. This makes it an increasingly popular choice for doors and windows.

The new leaflet has been published by HOPPE (UK) to show the variety of hardware available that can be used with aluminium doors and windows.
