Post COVID and post Ukraine invasion, the global hardware sector had just been getting used to a period of relative stability when it comes to logistics and freight costs.

However, that stability seems to be coming under increasing threat from the spate of attacks by Houthi rebels on ships in the Red Sea making their way to and from the vital Suez Canal transport link; and I think the market needs to be alert to some potential warning signs ahead.

Premier Arches Makes £100K Machinery Investment


Arched and angled frame specialist Premier Arches has invested over £100K in new machinery.  The company has invested heavily at the start of 2024 by adding a new copy router, a new four-head welder, two new ovens, additional saws and finishing tools.

Director Joe Trueman comments: “We’ve seen significant growth in 2023, we’ve won tons of new customers, and our existing customers have grown. This increased demand was beginning to stretch our capacity in Q4 of 2023, but the £100K of new kit allows us to deal with the current volume of orders and opens up capacity, allowing us to fulfil our growth plans for 2024. We’re set up for a huge year.”


Transom Groover Update Solves Foil Issue, Says Jade Engineering


Jade Engineering’s TG300 Transom Groover, has been given a whole new lease of life after learning of a production issue that has been causing issues when processing a relatively simple requirement.

The Jade TG300 has been updated following calls from fabricators who have themselves responded to the rise in the number of foiled frames being ordered by homeowners.

Guardian Glass Introduces a Lower-Carbon Float Glass to Europe


Following successful pilot production runs, Guardian Glass is introducing a lower-carbon float glass to the European market. The new lower-carbon float glass, Guardian Nexa, can also be used as a base glass or laminated glass for Guardian high performance products, including the Guardian SunGuard and the Guardian ClimaGuard ranges of coated glass products, says the company.

Gardian Nexa glass, developed through research and development, technical innovation and manufacturing expertise, can be used in a wide range of building facade applications and will help to reduce the embodied carbon of the built environment, claims the company.
