Shelforce Looking To Increase Fire Door Manufacturing Capacity

Birmingham window and door manufacturer Shelforce is looking to increase its capacity to cope with the demand for its Fireshel 30-minute fire resistant door.

After launching the Fireshel into the market in 2020, sales of the door exceeded expectations last year for local authority projects in Birmingham.

From a standing start, Shelforce was manufacturing 70 fire doors a week from its headquarters in Erdington – and projections for 2022 mean the company is set to be even busier this year.

Challenges With Document L

By Wojciech Brozyna - MD of Aluprof UK

Net Zero Carbon Homes by 2050, a step too far? Well it certainly is a challenge for the Construction Industry and home improvement, but it is possible to achieve? Let’s first look at some of today’s facts: 27% of our carbon emissions in the UK comes from heating our buildings, with 18% coming from our domestic building stock. 80% of our homes that will be needed in 2050 have already been built and we are still building homes today that are not in line with net zero. So what do we have to do?

Currently our homes range from 90 to 170 kWh/m2 energy usage per year, in 2050 we need to have our homes between 40 to 60 kWh/m2 per year. We will achieve this by taking a whole building approach, increasing thermal insulation whilst reducing air permeability and cold bridging. Obviously we will need to stop using fossil fuels such as gas as soon as practicable and move to heat pumps as the most accessible technology at the moment.

Haffner Says Size Does Matter!

Haffner’s stand at this year’s FIT Show was already set to be one of the biggest stands in the show’s history.  But the company has confirmed that it’s just got even bigger – the new space will be 610sqm. Dave Thomas, managing director of Haffner, said: “Our space at the FIT Show will be a must-visit for any fabricator. It will be first ever fully seamless machinery stand in the UK because it will showcase our complete Graf Synergy range, as well as machinery from our Haffner and FOM ranges.”

Haffner took the decision to extend the stand because of a rapid increase in demand and a stream of orders for fully seamless set-ups. Dave commented: “Fabricators are increasingly looking to use the latest technologies to deliver outstanding quality that feature-rich products demand. The Graf Synergy range is the only range for this.

Hassle-Free Profile Bending

For PVC fabricators, manufacturing square window and door frames is a process that could be done with their eyes closed – after all, it’s something they’ve perfected over decades.

But when it comes to arched frames, investment in new profile bending machinery is needed, not to mention the years of expertise required to perfect the process.

It’s a time-consuming and complex manufacturing technique that many fabricators simply aren’t equipped for, meaning many choose to turn down bespoke and potentially very lucrative jobs because of the headache they bring.

The St Helens-based company manufactures and supplies awkward products that others don’t want to make.
