Glass Industry Under Intense Strain


A perfect storm of escalating energy costs and market instability as we move into the latter half of 2022 and into 2023 will put many glass companies under the most intense pressure for a generation, a leading glass company has warned.

The 2021 Glass Company of the Year Cornwall Group said rising energy prices in 2023 will eclipse 2022 levels, putting greater pressure on glass companies to partner with stable suppliers and to pass on costs to customers. It is an issue not helped by glass manufacturers putting customers on allocation in response to wider pressures as we head into the second half of 2022.

Carl F Groupco has further expanded its product hardware inventory with the introduction of the new patented Release and Turn (RT) handle by J Banks & Co Ltd.

The new lockable, easy to operate RT handle offers a unique slim, compact design perfect for securing windows without obstructing internal blinds and fittings.

Designed and manufactured in the UK, the patented handle is suitable for use on aluminium, PVC-U and timber windows and delivers a low stack height of just 16mm. The handle incorporates a slim lock and key release cylinder and fits all espagnolette and shootbolt systems with 43mm hole centres. Available in various spindle lengths, the RT handle has a comfortable handle grip lever, while its non-handed design delivers product flexibility.



SupaLite Launch Flat Roof Orangery System


SupaLite, the Preston-based tiled roof specialists, has added a new flat roof orangery system to its existing portfolio of products.

According to SupaLite, ‘it has been manufactured to be one of the strongest, most thermally efficient and quickest to install flat roof orangery systems, and that the ILite is perfect for both the new build or retro-fit market’.

Factory fabricated in the UK, its design has been engineered with ease and durability in mind.

SupaLite says the system exceeds building regulation requirements by offering an impressive u-value of 013w/m2K as standard.


Vista Joins Association Of Composite Door Manufacturers


Vista Panels Ltd has joined the Association of Composite Door Manufacturers (ACDM), and have welcomed the role in promoting industry standards and the need for composite doorset manufacturers to adhere to Building Regulations.

The ACDM operates under a constitution which requires all members to adhere to its Code of Good Practice, claim a recognised security performance – usually PAS24 – and hold independent third-party certification by a UKAS accredited certification body.

Ian Smith, Vista’s business development and marketing manager, comments: “With changes to Approved Document Part L (conservation of fuel and power), and expected changes to Approved Document Part Q (security), it’s vital that everyone fabricating a composite doorset is making it to a required performance standard.

Building Our Skills has appointed Mark Handley as Partnerships Manager.

Formerly sales and marketing director at Consort Limited, Mark has over 30 years’ experience in the fenestration industry in roles spanning fabrication, installation, technical support, sales and marketing. He will effectively ‘be the face of’ Building Our Skills’ activities, liaising directly with employers and other organisations in the fenestration, glass and glazing industry to raise awareness of the work the organisation is doing, and to engage more support.

The appointment is a key part of Building Our Skills’ formal action plan for the next twelve months, which reflects the campaign’s commitment to bridging the skills gap, and working closely with stakeholders to attract entrants to the industry.


Conservatory Tech Sees Increased Leads For Northampton Installer


Northampton-based window, door and conservatory supplier Martindale Windows is the latest installer to enjoy the benefits of ARC Design, following a surge in interest in the visualisation and lead generation tool from Augmented Reality Creations (ARC).

Sitting within an installer’s website, ARC Design helps homeowners design and fully customise their own conservatory within minutes, before submitting the design to the installer to request a quote.

With the click of a button, the homeowner can then view their design in 3D augmented reality, allowing them to view the conservatory in situ on their house, helping them make their final decision.

Trade fabricator Modplan has further strengthened its sales management team with the recruitment of two new business development managers, Gareth Burgess and Matthew Davies. The team, headed up by field sales manager Ian Lewis has over 75 years of combined industry experience, and the team is focused on supporting Modplan’s existing and potential new customers.

CDW Systems Changes Transport Provider For Even Better Service


Aluminium specialist CDW Systems has changed its transport provider to make sure it can offer an even better service to its customers across the UK.

The renowned Gloucester based aluminium fabricator, part of the East Manor Group, has signed an agreement with RED Transport and Logistics based in Tewkesbury.

Roberts Express Delivery (RED) is one of the UK’s providers of delivery, removals, storage and transport and logistics services.

The company’s group chairman, Jeremy Phillips, said: “RED proved attractive for several reasons, not least because they are local.


Global Windows Donates Over £4,000 To Children’s Hospice


After donating over £4,000 to children in need in the past year, Emplas installer Global Windows has renewed its partnership with Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

Last May, Global Windows pledged to donate £5 to the hospice for every window and door installation carried out, helping to support children with life-threatening illnesses, as well as their families.

Last August, the company also sponsored a hole in one competition at the Bondhay Golf Club Captains Charity Golf Day, an event that helped to raise over £6,700 for the charity.
