Gareth Jones Appointed As Managing Director Of Solar Group (Huthwaite)


Respected industry figure Gareth Jones has been appointed Managing Director of the Solar Group’s Huthwaite based operation, officially taking up his new role from 3rd November.  Gareth, who has over 25 years in the industry, will bring his considerable experience to the Group, further strengthening its position and laying the foundations for the future.

The Solar Group’s Huthwaite operation comprises of three businesses, each of which are separate trading entities: Solar Calibre Doors Ltd, Solar Norvik Ltd and Taylor Manufacturing.  Collectively the businesses employ over 100 people across sites in Huthwaite and Barnsley, supported by an extensive supply chain.

Vertical slider manufacturer Roseview Windows has invested in a second SBA-4 VS PVC-U Profile Machining Centre from Haffner to support continued growth in its manufacturing.

Roseview has grown year-on-year since it was established over 40 years ago and has witnessed a sharp upturn in demand in the past 18 months as a result of the continued popularity of feature-rich sash windows.

To help meet the growth in demand, Roseview ordered their first SBA-4 VS PVC-U Profile Machining Centre earlier this year to replace an ageing machine and drive greater efficiencies across the shop floor.


Dekko Commits To Four New Apprenticeships 


UPVC and aluminium fabricator Dekko Window Systems has taken on four new apprentices, strengthening its commitment to upskilling young people and tackling the industry’s skills shortage.

Sales director Kurt Greatrex comments: “The skills gap is a huge issue facing the industry at the moment, and I predict for a long time to come.

“While we’ve all been stretched due to increased demand, at the same time, an ageing workforce is retiring, and we’re just not getting enough skilled workers in to replace them.


New Face In AluK’s Product Marketing Team 


AluK is expanding its product marketing team with the appointment of Luigi Bertino as a product marketing executive. He has joined product managers Lisa Stephens and Peter Willard, enhancing and developing AluK’s product range, so that it stays ahead of a rapidly changing market and continues to deliver what customers need.

Luigi has experience in operations and marketing in both software and retail companies and an impressive list of qualifications which includes an MBA from the University of the West of England and a Masters in marketing and business communication from La Sapienza university in Rome.


Building Our Skills’ Practical Training Gets The Thumbs Up From NYG 


Building Our Skills has completed its commitment to train sixty new-to-the-fenestration-industry installers using funding provided by the Midlands Energy Hub and BEIS.

Among others who benefitted from the training was North Yorkshire-based home improvement company, NYG, who sent their young and trainee installers onto the course.

Speaking about their involvement, Lisa Pullan, NYG’s Office Manager said: “Our fitters found the course useful and enjoyable. The course has been great for enhancing basic knowledge, and has given the staff a good level of training on windows installation, which I know has really boosted their confidence.


PAS2030 Accreditation For The Window Company (Contracts) 


Specialist commercial installer The Window Company (Contracts) has achieved PAS2030 accreditation, which is a requirement for installing windows and doors funded by any of the government’s energy efficiency schemes targeting retrofit projects. The company says, with only around 5% of UK window and door installers estimated to hold PAS2030, the company has joined a fairly exclusive club.

While the Green Homes Grant has been withdrawn from the domestic market in readiness for alternative plans aimed at greening the UK’s existing housing stock, landlords and housing providers in the commercial sector can still access funding through various government schemes, including the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF).


Thermoseal Win Spacer Bar Manufacturer Of The Year At NFA’s 


Thermoseal Group has been named Spacer Bar Manufacturer of the Year in the 2021 National Fenestration Awards for the second year in a row. The Group also won the award in 2020 and back in 2017.

Thermoseal Group won the award with the highest percentage of the open-platform votes and were announced winners at the NFA Awards event on 6th November 2021.

Tradeglaze Joins EastEnders Stars for Charity Cheque Presentation 


Lincolnshire fabricator Tradeglaze (Lincoln) Ltd joined EastEnders legends Shane Richie and Adam Woodyatt to present a £10,000 cheque from premier motorhome dealer, Camper UK, to the United Lincolnshire Hospital Charity which supports local NHS staff. The funds were raised at this year’s Camperfest ’21, an event organised by Camper UK in August.

Tradeglaze proudly took part as the event’s Gold Sponsor and helped raise monies with several activities including competing in the event’s ‘We’re a Knockout’ inflatable challenges. Disciplines included running over inflatable slides, group jumping in sacks, diving through foam and building an inflatable cannon, to name just a few of the tricky tasks the teams had to tackle.
