FENSA Polls Approved Installers In New Building Regs Consultation


FENSA Approved installers have been asked for their views in a survey towards the publication of the new, revised Building Regulations due for publication later this year which include making trickle vents mandatory together with the lowering of u-values and the increase in WER/DSER bandings for windows and doors. The poll is intended to gather views in relation to Approved Document F (Ventilation) and Approved Document L (Conservation of Fuel & Power) which deal specifically with the performance of windows and doors in domestic dwellings for new build, refurbishment and home improvement.

Laminated Glass Ban Webinar Engages GGF Members


On Thursday 18th February, the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) Document B Working Party held a Members-only Webinar on the GGF’s response to the Government ban of the use of Laminated Safety Glasses: Regulation 7 / Statutory Instrument 1230. The ban applies to building attachments in buildings over 18m high in England and Wales and over 11m high in Scotland.

Since this ban was introduced in 2018, the GGF has been working on behalf of Members to respond to Government Consultations surrounding this issue and working towards facilitating a lifting of the ban via exemptions in, Regulation 7 for the use of Laminated Safety Glass in Balconies and Balustrades.


A Record January For SEH BAC


Home improvement company SEH BAC celebrated smashing £1m in sales in a single week in January – a record for the South East company.

And with the home improvement industry still buoyant, it shows no signs of slowing down.

With a product range including uPVC, aluminium and timber windows, doors, conservatories, solid roof extensions, replacement conservatory roofs, verandas, orangeries, and roofline, SEH BAC saw a huge rise in the number of sales in the second half of last year and that has continued into 2021.

The company has also scooped several recent awards, including the Emplas 2020 Best Showroom Awards and Ultraframe’s Installation of the Month, and it has also been shortlisted at this year’s Pitched Roofing Awards AND the GGP Installer Awards 2020.


Dekko Customers Sell More ‘Smart Doors’


There has been a lot of buzz around ‘smart’ windows and doors over the last few years, and one company that has fully embraced this new technology is fabricator Dekko Window Systems.

Dekko were one of the launch partners for Kubu – the Smart-Equipped Lock from Avantis Hardware – and since 2019, it has come as a standard feature on all their PVC and composite entrance doors.

The fabricator is keen to help their trade customers sell as many smart equipped doors as possible, which is why they have spent the last few months providing installers with product samples and marketing materials, enabling them to explain the benefits of smart tech to the end-user.


Over 200 Spectus Windows Fitted In New Gold-Standard Development


Over 200 Elite 70 casement windows and 32 French door sets were manufactured and installed in a new 32-home development in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. The 32 new home development were designed and built to exacting high standards incorporating Secured by Design features throughout, including Police Preferred specification for the windows and doors.

The manufacture and installation of the windows and doors was awarded to experienced Spectus’ fabricator Highseal Manufacturing Company based in Scunthorpe. Established in 2012, Highseal is committed to delivering product excellence and operates under stringent CE Markings and BSi Kitemark standards which ensures their products meet Approved Document Q requirements which was fundamental for this project.
