Reassurance On Business As Usual From AluK

Chepstow-based AluK is reassuring customers that it is very much business as usual, despite the ‘Firebreak’ lockdown announced yesterday by the Welsh government.

With construction currently not listed within the non-essential category, AluK is able to remain open and continue its production and warehousing operations, in line with all the Covid-19 secure working protocols which have been in place and working extremely well since the factory reopened in April.

Managing Director Justin Hunter commented: “We will continue to monitor and follow the guidance provided by the UK and Welsh Governments.

Sash Window Searches Are Soaring, Says Victorian Sliders

Europe’s biggest sash window manufacturer Victorian Sliders looks at the latest Google Trends data, and what it tells us about the state of the market.

2020 has been the strangest and most challenging year many of us will have experienced in our lifetimes – but despite it all, demand for glazing products remains extremely strong.

Back in April, when the pandemic was at its height, even the most optimistic among us wouldn’t have predicted that sales would be soaring come July and August.

Roto Announces New Anti-Viral Technology For Window Handles

Window handles from Roto are now available with a special coating designed to dramatically reduce the possibility of viruses and other pathogens being transferred by touch.

The new coating is called Roto AVT, or Anti-Viral Technology. It works in two ways: firstly by preventing viruses from attaching to the surface, and secondly with active ingredients that deactivate or “kill” any virus particles that do come into contact with the handle, claims the company.

The company says, Roto AVT is described as being, “transparent, thin-layered and barely perceptible to the touch”. The coating, which is also UV-resistant, has a very hard, pore-free surface.

Dear Gerald

I wrote last month criticising the fact that far too many fabricators were using the Covid-19 crisis and ongoing supply chain issues as excuses for inherent inefficiencies within their businesses.

The response from certain sectors of the market seems to have been that, while the market is over capacity as it is right now and there are ongoing shortages on profile, hardware and glass, longer lead times should just be seen as an inevitable consequence. I have lots of sympathy with that argument and totally accept that even the most efficient fabricator can’t make a window without all the components being in stock. However, what I don’t accept is that installers should bear the brunt of that moving forward.

Yale DWS Adapts Connectivity For Post-Lockdown Specification Practices

Yale has broadened its communication opportunities to allow for its straight-forward, specification service to continue with new socially distanced working practices.

Windows and doors are the most vulnerable part of a building in terms of safety, security, longevity and maintenance, however the hardware of these components are often overlooked. In order to ensure maximum performance and to prevent unwanted incidents from happening, it’s important to specify the correct hardware and specify in great detail.

Housebuilders often operate within tight budgets, so in order to achieve best value, specifiers must establish high quality products

Force 8

Flush windows have become an extremely popular product in the home improvement market, particularly with homeowners looking for a more traditional look and feel. There are many fabricators now producing these flush products, but there are gaps in the flush range, particularly when it comes to doors, says Force 8

Force 8 is recognised for innovating, and have a long history of unique products. During the lockdown period earlier this year, they were using the time to develop a truly unique product for the flush frame market, a set of arched French doors, which to their knowledge, no other manufacture can produce.
