Super-Size’ Manufacture Defining Trend At This Year’s Glasstec

Capacity to manufacture on increasingly large scale is one of the defining trends at this year’s Glasstec, 23-26th October, Düsseldorf, according to machinery specialist, Promac Group.

With cutting-edge technologies on show at this autumn’s expo from its supply partners including Forel, Mappi, Soft Solution, and Macotec, Promac Group Managing Director, Joe Hague, said Glasstec 2018 was defined by the application of glass products on an increasingly large scale.

He said: “The requirement to manufacture large scale product – units around the 4m2 mark, so 2000mm x 2000mm and up – has increased significantly in the last year.

“Mirroring growth in aluminium, this includes from the home improvement market, with larger IGU’s going into lift-and-slide and glass-wall type installations and continuing demand from the commercial and specification sectors.

“This makes capacity to manufacture at scale and automation of process key, not simply in terms of handling but quality and efficiency and there are some very exciting products being showcased at this year’s Glasstec which allow you to do it.”

Chief among them is Forel, which unveiled its ‘No Limits’ range at Vitrum last year. This includes an IGU line with the capability to process panes of up to 15m long and 3.3m high with a load capacity per linear metre of 350kg for a single pane and 600kg for the assembled unit.

The line on show at this year’s Glasstec (Hall 16 A21-A41) with a capacity to manufacture units 3300mm X 9000mm sits close to the mid-point of this heavy-weight offering.

It features a washing machine, quality scanner, frame application and inspection station, turning conveyor, gas filling coupling press and sealing robot complete with pumping system – each geared to handle large units.

Mappi will also showcase its leading-edge ATS ECO 4.0 High Performance Low Energy Tempering Plant on stand D39 in Hall 16.

The ATS ECO 4.0 features a newly refined multi-zonal and intelligent heating systems, delivering significantly increased product quality and efficiency in the tempering of the latest generation of low-e glass, with capacity to temper glass of up to 2700 X 6000mm.

Float glass cutting line manufacturer Macotec, will be in Hall 16, Stand D60. Innovations on show include its Master Shape 3.7FR automatic glass cutting table, the Strato Active automatic laminated glass cutting table, plus its automatic cutting lines.

Flat glass inspection systems leader SoftSolution will also showcase its range of vertical and horizontal line scanners in Hall 14, Stand D60.
